Can we improve tuberculosis case-finding in Pakistan?

Analysing the efficiency of tuberculosis case-finding interventions in Pakistan

Country Focus

Pakistan

Why was this work needed?

Improving case detection is essential to achieving tuberculosis elimination targets in Pakistan. However, the lack of data on the cost of active case-finding interventions undermines the effectiveness of the tuberculosis control programme, impacting the efficient use of resources and overall health outcomes. This analysis aimed to assess the costs and effectiveness of current active case-finding methods, to provide useful information for optimising tuberculosis case-finding efforts in the country.

What did we do?

  • Evaluated the costs associated with active case-finding interventions in the public and private sectors.

  • Assessed cost-effectiveness by measuring the cost per person screened and the cost per case of tuberculosis diagnosed for each intervention.

  • Provided evidence-based recommendations to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of active case-finding efforts in Pakistan.
